For many people the use of Botox® equals smoother skin with less wrinkles. While this is certainly true, it’s not the only problem this injectable can address. Botox and fillers can also treat a number of other cosmetic issues related to the face and neck.
At the Ventura Institute for Dermatologic Arts, our premier clinic located in Ventura and Camarillo, California, Dr. Peter Karlsberg and his physician’s assistant Michele Ayans use both art and science for the best possible outcome. No matter the cosmetic dermatological issue you seek to address, we undertake a thorough consultation and examination and then create a personalized treatment plan that best suits your needs and desires.
Botox
Made from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, Botox works by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles. This, in turn, prevents the muscle from contracting and smooths the skin above it.
Cosmetically, Botox is often used on dynamic wrinkles that are caused by repetitive facial actions like furrowing the brow or smiling. Prime candidates include forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet.
Additional uses
In addition to getting rid of some of the most obvious types of wrinkles, Botox can help remedy other cosmetic issues. These include:
Neck bands
One of the first signs of the neck’s aging, platysma, or neck bands, can become apparent and affect the appearance. Botox can help lessen their visibility and smooth the neck.
Puckered chin
Wrinkling, dimpling, and/or the chin looking like it has the texture of an orange peel can be an issue as we age. Botox can help smooth the skin, reduce the downward appearance of the mouth, and improve the projection of the jawline, making it longer and straighter.
Mouth corners
The passing of years can cause the corners of the mouth to droop. Botox can help lift them back up.
Vertical lip lines
Also known as fence post lines or smoker’s lines, vertical lip lines occur particularly in people whose lips purse while talking. Botox can help reduce the lines and remedy this issue.
Upper lip
For people whose upper lip tends to disappear, especially when smiling, a small amount of Botox can help flip it and make it more visible.
Procedure
The Botox procedure is fast and relatively painless with the entire appointment taking only 30 to 60 minutes. No downtime is needed and you can continue on with your schedule. Initial results are apparent immediately with additional improvements occurring over the next few days. Results last between three and six months, with a touch-up treatment done when needed.
