Does it feel like you’ve tried every anti-aging skin cream on the market but see little difference in your fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin? Or maybe you have a medicine cabinet full of products claiming they will remove blotchiness, decrease the appearance of scars, and even out the skin, yet when you look in the mirror the imperfections seem as noticeable as always. The good news is, there are more effective treatments available to help you accomplish your goals. One example is the Fraxel® Dual laser.
At the Ventura Institute for Dermatologic Arts in Ventura, California, Dr. Peter Karlsberg and his physician’s assistant Michele Ayans use a combination of art and science coupled with proven cutting-edge therapies and treatments for a variety of
cosmetic dermatological care. Whether you’re looking to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, smooth your skin, or reduce sagging, we can help. One of our many methods available employs the Fraxel Dual laser.
Fraxel Dual Laser
The Fraxel Dual laser is a non-invasive laser that uses microscopic laser columns to go deep into the skin to encourage new growth of collagen and elastin, and to reduce blotchy discoloration from sun damage. The treatment can provide a wide range of benefits and is a good choice for a number of different skin care issues.
The laser can decrease fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and create younger, fresher-looking skin. It can also reduce brown spots and blotchiness, as well as minimize the appearance of scars from acne or surgical procedures. This results in skin that is smoother and more even. Finally, it can improve skin tone and texture. The Fraxel Dual laser actually has two different lasers, one of which is optimal for scars, fine lines and wrinkles, and another that is optimal for treating discoloration and blotchiness. Both lasers can be combined in a single treatment to improve fine lines, scars, and discolored skin. The Fraxel Dual is also effective in treating blotchy, discolored and aging skin of the neck, chest, hands and arms. Fraxel treatments generally outperform IPL (intense pulsed light) devices and are safer as well when treating discoloration and sun damage.
Procedure and recovery
Treatment begins with the face being cleansed and a topical anesthetic ointment applied for optimal comfort. The exact amount of time for the procedure depends on an individual’s skin, goals, and area treated, but typically a full face procedure lasts about 20 to 25 minutes. The number of treatments and spacing of appointments are determined in a personalized treatment plan.
The laser treats only a portion of tissue at a time while the adjacent tissue remains intact, which encourages quick healing. Results can be seen immediately after treatment with even more improvement occurring over time for an additional two to three months. As always, it is important to protect the skin from the sun by using a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or more and wearing a hat.
