Peter L Karlsberg, MD

Peter Karlsberg, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist and laser surgeon at Ventura Institute for Dermatologic Arts in Ventura and Camarillo, California. He prioritizes the safety and satisfaction of each patient who comes through the door and fosters a welcoming environment for all patients with types of dermatological needs.

Dr. Karlsberg excelled in academia while working toward his career in dermatology. He graduated with honors from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and from the University of California School of Medicine in San Francisco. After earning his medical degree, he completed an internship in internal medicine at three hospitals: San Francisco General, Moffitt Long, and the San Francisco VA Medical Center.

After finishing his internship in San Francisco, Dr. Karlsberg completed three years of training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. This training centered around dermatology, Mohs surgery and reconstruction, and laser and cosmetic surgery. It was there that his current passion for dermatology grew.

Today, Dr. Karlsberg remains committed to ongoing research into the best and latest treatment techniques and devices, knowledge which he applies daily at his state-of-the-art practice as a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. He presents his own studies and has published research in renowned journals, including the Archives of Dermatology and the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.

Over the years, Dr. Karlsberg has been named the best dermatologist in Ventura County multiple times by the VC Reporter Annual Readers’ Poll. For two years, he served as president of the Tri-Counties Dermatology Society. He is also a speaker and physician instructor for numerous brands, including Scuptra®, Juvéderm®, and Radiesse®.

At Ventura Institute for Dermatologic Arts, Dr. Karlsberg strives to artfully craft more youthful yet natural appearances for his patients of all ages and genders. He focuses on patients’ goals as he forms personalized treatment plans for their individual needs.

Michele Ayans, PA-C

Native Southern Californian, Michele Ayans, graduated from California State University, Northridge in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. She then graduated with honors from the physician assistant program at Charles R Drew University of Medicine and Science in Los Angeles in 1998.

Michele began her career as a PA in family medicine and OB-Gyn for 4 years. It was then that she met another PA who was practicing in dermatology, and was more fully introduced to the field. In 2005, Michele started practicing in dermatology, and has enjoyed dermatology ever since.

Michele joined Dr. Karlsberg’s practice in September, 2006. Since then, Michele has worked closely with, and been mentored by, Dr. Karlsberg. She has attended many hours of injection, laser, and other trainings, and has continued to perfect her dermatologic technique, all while becoming a mother of three.

At home, Michele continues to pursue her interests in traveling and horses- an interest that she shares with her seven-year-old daughter. She lives in Ventura County with her husband, ten-year-old son, and seven-year-old twins. Michele is well-loved by her patients, and emulates the high standard of care for which Dr. Karlsberg’s practice is known.
